What We Do (And Why It Matters)

Navigating Google’s advertising ecosystem takes more than just throwing money at a budget and writing a few catchy headlines. It demands strategic depth, technical precision, and relentless fine-tuning.

Colewood Digital: Your Google Search Ads Specialists

Because we are a full-service digital marketing agency, we don’t look at your Google Ads in a vacuum. We treat them as a vital piece of your wider strategy, whether we’re running your SEO and email campaigns, or working smoothly alongside your brilliant in-house team.

Partnering with us for Google Search Ads brings serious advantages:

  • The Agency Edge: Relying entirely on an in-house team can sometimes limit your campaigns to the bandwidth of just a few people. Partnering with us unlocks an entire roster of specialists who manage diverse portfolios. That means our industry expertise translates directly into superior campaign architecture and rapid problem-solving.
  • Verified Excellence: We don’t just talk the talk. Our Google Partner and Premier Partner badges are hard-earned proof of our verified proficiency, strict adherence to best practices, and consistent delivery of high-tier results.
  • Always a Step Ahead: The search landscape is volatile. We stay on the bleeding edge of platform updates, algorithm shifts, and new ad formats so your campaigns are always leading the pack—never playing catch-up.

The Full-Lifecycle Service

Our services cover the entire lifecycle of your campaigns, ensuring absolutely no opportunity is left on the table. We guide you from that first strategy session right through to rigorous, daily campaign management.

  • Foundational Keyword Research: We hunt down the high-intent, highly relevant terms your ideal customers are actually typing.
  • Killer Ad Creation: Our copywriters blend high-converting headlines with compelling calls to action (CTAs) that align perfectly with your broader goals.
  • Maximum SERP Real Estate: We boost your click-through rates by expertly managing sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, and call extensions.
  • Landing Page Synergy: A great ad is only half the battle. We collaborate with your team to ensure the post-click experience perfectly matches the promise made in your search ad.
  • Strategic Remarketing: We reel back in the ones who got away, re-engaging previous visitors who are still in the decision-making phase.
  • Comprehensive PPC Management: We sweat the granular details—bid strategies, budget allocation, and ad scheduling—to ensure every penny of your spend is highly efficient.

The Blueprint: Planning Your Campaigns

Success is engineered long before a single penny is spent. We believe in building an ironclad strategic foundation for every search campaign we launch.

  • Defining the Goal: Lead generation or e-commerce sales? Your specific business goals dictate our entire strategy.
  • Meticulous Structure: We build campaigns tightly aligned with distinct audience targeting, keyword match types, and user search intent.
  • Financial Alignment: We map your ad spend directly to realistic business growth targets and expected conversion rates, keeping profitability at the forefront.
  • Scouting the Competition: We dive deep into competitor analysis to spot market gaps, messaging opportunities, and bidding threats.
  • Setting the KPIs: Before we ever hit ‘launch,’ we establish clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) so you know exactly how success will be measured.

How We Turn Clicks Into Revenue

Strategy is great, but execution is where it becomes revenue. We take a data-first approach to drive performance, stretch your budget, and scale your return on investment.

Precision Targeting & Keyword Mastery

We make sure your ads hit the right screens, at the right time, with the right intent.

  • Deep-Dive Methodology: We balance highly competitive short-tail keywords with high-converting long-tail phrases. Crucially, we aggressively map search intent and deploy negative keywords to block junk traffic.
  • Layered Audiences: Keywords are just the start. We layer on sophisticated audience targeting, incorporating demographics, in-market behaviors, and first-party customer match data.
  • Cutting the Fat: This hyper-refined targeting instantly slashes wasted spend and lifts your overall ROI.
  • Granular Control: We implement precise geo-targeting and device strategies, adjusting bids based on exactly where and how your most profitable customers are searching.

Machine Learning Meets Human Expertise

Google Ads runs on machine learning, but it takes expert human steering to protect your budget and maximise the results.

  • Relentless Optimisation: We are in your accounts constantly—making daily bid adjustments, proactively boosting Quality Scores, and fine-tuning ad relevance.
  • Mastering Smart Bidding: Whether we’re using Target CPA, Target ROAS, or Maximise Conversions, we train Google’s algorithms to hunt specifically for your business goals.
  • The Perfect Balance: Automation is powerful, but left unchecked, it can overspend. We expertly balance automated bidding with strict manual oversight to ensure the AI actually serves your bottom line.
  • Always Testing: We never stop A/B testing ad copy, headlines, and landing pages to incrementally push your click-through and conversion rates higher.

Transparent, Actionable Reporting

Data is only useful if it makes sense. We pride ourselves on transparent reporting that you can actually act on.

  • Flawless Tracking: We ensure total accuracy by perfectly setting up conversion tracking and integrating seamlessly with Google Analytics for deep insights.
  • The Metrics that Matter: We obsess over impressions, CTR, CPC, conversion rates, cost per acquisition, and ultimately—your ROI.
  • Total Transparency: No smoke and mirrors. We clearly communicate exactly where your ad spend is going, the results we’re getting, and the strategic “why” behind our next moves.
  • Flexible Access: From quick weekly snapshots to comprehensive monthly deep-dives and real-time Looker Studio dashboards, you get the data you need, exactly how you want it.

Frequently asked questions

A Search Ad is displayed when a user enters a query into the Google Search Bar, containing terms related to one of the keywords for that ad. These text based ads are shown above (and below) the organic search results, with their prominence based on a multitude of factors. As the original type of Google Ad, formally known as Adwords, they have stood the test of time, connecting the user’s intent with relevant products and services. Since their launch in October 2000, they have evolved considerably, harnessing the power of machine learning to optimise the way they are delivered.

Responsive Search Ads were launched in 2018, becoming the default type of Search Ad by 2021 and fully replacing the Expanded Text Ad by June 2022. Responsive Search Ads allow you to define up to 15 Headlines, 4 Descriptions, the Final URL (where users will land on a website), 2 Display Paths and optional Ad Assets, like call buttons and site links. Google serves users various combinations of these fields, and after a short learning phase, will begin to show the most successful combinations which users are responding to, more often. This means that the most impactful variations of your Search Ads lead the way. If certain pairings of headline and description text are bringing the most clicks or conversions, these are displayed more regularly to users as a result.

Dynamic Search Ads (DSAs) are a type of Google Ads campaign that automatically targets search queries using the content of your website, instead of relying on manually selected keywords. When a user’s search aligns with your site, Google creates a tailored ad headline and sends the user to the most relevant page on your website. DSAs work best alongside existing keyword-based search campaigns rather than as a replacement. Additionally they work particularly well with SEO strategies which focus on the quality of on-page content.

Traditionally, every aspect of a Google Search Ad was manually defined, with the headline text, description and landing URL all set in stone. This meant that if a campaign manager wanted to A/B test descriptions to see which version was more successful, this had to be done manually, and it was common for ad groups to become bloated, with many slight variations of the same ad being run at once. Responsive Search Ads handle this process automatically, giving a higher visibility to the headlines, descriptions and more, which real users are engaging with.

Every Google Search Ad has a list of keywords associated with it. This curated list instructs Google to only show the ad if a user enters a query that includes (or is closely associated with) one of these words. Additional factors influence whether the ad will show, along with how prominently. This includes ad budget, audience information and habits associated with the user, quality of the website landing page experience, campaign goals, bidding strategy, and the visibility of your competitors ads.

The best results come from the most relevant keywords to the products and services being promoted. Google assesses how relevant the keywords, ads and landing pages all are to each other, giving favour to campaigns where all three factors are closely aligned. A mixture of keywords should be chosen based on various factors. Keyword research demonstrates how popular particular search terms are with users, but this should always be weighed up against what competitors are doing, along with the likely cost and conversion rate. For example, a particular keyword might be the most relevant for the service being promoted, but it’s also the one which every competitor uses in a highly competitive market. This drives the bid price up, resulting in a very expensive cost-per-click. Based on the overall ad budget which the business can afford, making an acceptable return on investment, just isn’t feasible. It would be better to also include less popular, cheaper keywords, which may cause the ads to show less often, but are more likely to grab users’ attention and convert, based on the lower competition. If a business has USPs or niche services, this approach can be highly lucrative.
